If Bioware has done anything with SWTOR, they’ve tried to recreate those heady days of content discovery. Mysteries are abound in the game, from the elusive Magenta Crystal to the enigmatic +10 datacrons. One of the most recent of these was the inclusion of the aptly named Unusual Egg, an item that simply begged to be hatched. Where? How? What would be inside? These were all questions that persisted throughout the 1.2 testing process. It took a few weeks, but eventually the cryptic clues were pieced together and Orokeets started appearing around the galaxy, once thought long lost.
Now, to figure out how to get that other Tautaun pet on Hoth.
Your journey begins on the planet of Alderaan. In the Alsakan Lowlands (Wardpost Duvaal if you’re Republic) you’ll ride south towards the ruins of a bridge. Once there, maneuver to the spot in the below picture. The jump can be a little tricky, but if you’ve hunted datacrons than it should be no problem. It helps to dismount from your speeder for the little bit of added control. Once you get down onto the log, it’s time to play the waiting game, as the egg itself has a reported 4-8 hour respawn timer. I got it by logging out here before the servers went down for maintenance, making sure to log on RIGHT as the servers came up. You might have luck logging on in the wee hours of the morning as well.
Now for the extreme heat part of the process. Once you have your Unusual Egg, head to Tatooine, inspiration for the neighborhood in “Do the Right Thing”. First, you need to make sure you’re properly hydrated, so find one of the Water Towers and click on the vent at the bottom for a nice refreshing sip of water. Your thirst quenched, it’s time to head out to the Dune Sea, where you’re on the hunt for a place that’s managed to harness the energy of BOTH of Tatooine’s suns.
The finely tanned employees of Czerka Corp are the only ones crazy enough to build such a contraption (and the requisite SPF 2000 sunscreen) so you’ll be heading to their compound in the far south of the Dune Sea. The location is marked on the above map, as well as an image of the infernal device itself below. It’s hidden behind the main Czerka base, near some outturned solar panels. Once inside, you’ll notice the egg showing signs of life. Keep working on your tan and eventually it’ll hatch, turning into your soon to be beloved little Orokeet. Make sure to quickly exit the solar panels though, as right when the egg hatches, you’ll start taking damage.
The final step? Head back to the fleet so you can start fielding questions about “omfg where did u get that pet so cute!?”
Many thanks to the valiant folks over at the official forums for uncovering this mystery, especially those of you who pushed on after the thread on the PTS forums was wiped out. As is the case with these things, if you know who officially broke the story first, please let me know and I’ll credit them, but it seems like this one was primarily a mob effort.
